2023 Hockey World Cup Kicks Off with Wins for Australia, India & England

The Men's Hockey World Cup returned to India on Friday, and the very first day has given us a few pretty amazing matches. Australia, India, England, and Argentina cemented their domination with easy wins against their opponents in the first round of the tournament. The face-off between Argentina and South Africa in Pool A served as the tournament’s opening match, and Maico Casella ended up leading his team to a well-deserved win. Australia was on top of their game against France, cementing their domination with an 8-0 thrashing, largely thanks to Tom Craig and Jeremy Hayward, who both scored three points. England and Wales faced in the first match in Pool D, with England easily winning 5-0, with Liam Ansell netting two goals for his side. India faced Spain just two hours later and proved they’re a force to be reckoned with by scoring two goals on Friday. The group stage will resume today, and it’s expected to last until January 20 to determine who’ll make it to cross-overs and quarter-finals. The Men's Hockey World Cup will conclude on January 29, with the final match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Belgium entered this year’s tournament as the defending champion, while Pakistan is the most successful team overall, with a total of four wins.
