Aaron Judge and Yankees Sign $19 Million Deal to Avoid Arbitration

After failing to come to terms with Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees were supposed to hold an arbitration hearing, but that won’t be necessary anymore. They agreed to keep their star right fielder for $19 million next season in an attempt to avoid arbitration. The arbitration drama started after Judge turned down a blockbuster, seven-year deal worth $213.5 million. He was aware that his price will rise after he becomes a free agent this season, and asked the Yankees for $21 million, while they were offering just $17 million. The 30-year-old MLB player eventually found the middle ground with the team, and they signed a $19 million deal for the next season to avoid the arbitration hearing. According to Mark Feinsand, he can earn 250,000 for a first-place MVP finish and another $250,000 for winning World Series MVP. Judge has been with the Yankees since 2016, making his professional MLB debut with the team. He told MLB.com that the arbitration drama was “just business” and that it hasn't impacted his play or love for the team. “I’m more motivated by the type of team we’ve got, the special talent we have here and the opportunity we have ahead of us. I try to just keep focusing on that, and it makes it pretty easy to block this other stuff with the business side out,” said Judge.
