Aaron Judge Named American League MVP Following Historic Season

Aaron Judge was on top of his game this past season, and he’s getting credit where credit is due. The New York Yankees slugger managed to beat the likes of Shohei Ohtani and Yordan Alvarez to be named the American League MVP. Judge received 28 1st-place votes to easily beat the competition by over 100 points. With 410 points, he easily edged out Los Angeles Angels star Ohtani with 280 points and Houston Astros’ Alvarez, who finished third with 232 points. Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians and Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros were also in the running for the MVP Award. Judge’s honor doesn’t come as a shocker considering the season that he had, but the 30-year-old said he was “extremely nervous” after receiving the award, especially since both Alvarez and Ohtani had incredible years. "You dream about it as a kid, to be in this moment and share this experience, but you never truly think it's going to happen. It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of love and support from family, friends, and teammates over the year," said the Yankees superstar. Judge is the first Yankees player to win MVP since Alex Rodriguez in 2007, but his future with the team is currently in limbo. He became MLB’s top free agent after rejecting a $213.5-million extension for the 2022 season.
