Aaron Judge Reportedly Signs $360 Million Extension with New York Yankees

There was a lot of chatter surrounding Aaron Judge’s future and whether he’s going to stay with the New York Yankees or not. After weeks of speculations, one of the MLB’s biggest stars of his generation has reportedly rendered his verdict and decided to stay in New York for a hefty sum. ESPN’s Jeff Passan broke the news on Twitter, reporting that Judge was in the hot seat choosing between three different teams, but eventually decided to stick around in New York. “Aaron Judge flew into San Diego at the last minute to decide among three teams: the New York Yankees, the San Francisco Giants, and the San Diego Padres. The Yankees bumped their offer to nine years and $360 million, and in the end, Judge decided he wanted to remain a Yankee,” wrote Passan on Twitter. If the reported deal pans out, this will make the Yankees’ largest commitment to a single player following, breaking the record held by their $324-million deal with Gerrit Cole. It also makes him the third highest-paid player in baseball, behind Mike Trout ($426.5 million) and Mookie Betts ($365 million). It makes sense for the Yankees to cash out a fortune to keep Judge around since he’s been one of the team’s key players since joining them in 2016. He broke several franchise records over the years and won the AL Most Valuable Player Award this past season.
