Aaron Rodgers Sparks Retirement Speculations Following Packers’ Loss to Lions

Retirement rumors have been following Aaron Rodgers for quite some time, and they’re not going away. The four-time MVP sparked retirement speculations following the Green Bay Packers’ season-ending loss to the Detroit Lions after saying it “could be time to step away.” The Packers’ face-off with the Lions on Sunday resulted in another disappointing performance and put an end to their Super Bowl hopes. The devastating 20-16 loss eliminated them from the playoffs for the first time since 2018. This was an especially big blow for the team’s quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who spent most of the season playing with a broken thumb. He kicked off retirement rumors after declining to exchange his jersey with Lions rookie Jameson Williams. Many saw this as a sign that Rodgers might be contemplating retirement, despite signing a three-year contract worth $150.8 million earlier this year. Rodgers added some fuel to the fire by saying he needs to get away and contemplate things following this match. “I have a lot of pride in what I've accomplished in this league, but I'm also a realist, and I understand where we're at as a team. We're a young team; there could be some changes with some of the older guys, and it could be time to step away,” said Rodgers.
