Andres Gimenez Finalizing $106.5 Million Extension with Cleveland Guardians

Andres Gimenez has proven himself as one of the key players on the Cleveland Guardians roster, and they’re not letting go of him anytime soon. The Venezuelan second baseman is finalizing a seven-year extension with the team, reportedly worth $106.5 million. Gimenez’s new deal will kick off in 2024, and it covers the next seven years, with a club option for 2031. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the deal includes a $23 million option for the eighth year and it comes with a signing bonus of $4 million. 2022 was a breakout year for Gimenez and expectations are running high for his future, but he’s certain that he can meet them. ”I am aware of expectations for this year. All I can control is my preparation. Just pay attention to the little things that allow me to have the good results and the kind of year I just had,” said Gimenez earlier this month. Gimenez initially made his professional MLB debut with the New York Mets, but he didn’t stick around for too long. He was traded to Cleveland just less than six months after making his debut and eventually found his footing with the Guardians. He went on to win Gold Glove Award in 2022 and was named an All-Star for the first time.
