Andrew Benintendi Signs $75 Million Deal with Chicago White Sox

After only a year with the New York Yankees, Andrew Benintendi is heading to Chicago. The MLB outfielder signed a five-year deal with the Chicago White Sox reportedly worth $75 million, which happens to be the largest deal in the franchise’s history. Once Benintendi's signing is made official, it will be the largest contract that the White Sox have given to one of their players, beating the $73 million deal given to catcher Yasmani Grandal. This deal will most likely push the White Sox's payroll over $200 million for the second season in a row. Benintendi’s new deal comes shortly after he joined the New York Yankees last season, but he never found his footing in the Bronx. He had to miss most of the season after suffering a broken hamate bone in early September, which required surgery. According to reports, the Yankees were interested in extending Benintendi’s deal, but they were unwilling to match Red Sox’s offer. They were ready to cash out a huge sum for Benintendi following a disappointing season plagued by injuries and regression. Benintendi switched between several teams before joining Chicago, starting with Boston Red Sox in 2016, where he stayed for four years and won a World Series with the team in 2018.
