Arsenal Destroys Crystal Palace on Opening Day of Premier League Season

The 2022/23 Premier League season finally kicked off on Friday, and the first match was one for the books. Arsenal faced Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the first match of the season and proved they’re a force to be reckoned with by winning 2-0. Arsenal established their domination just 20 minutes into the game when Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring. Crystal Palace spent the rest of the match trying to make a comeback, but Marc Guéhi’s late own goal was the final nail in their coffin and it led to Gunner’s inevitable triumph. The outcome of the match was just what Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta expected after seeing how amazing the team was performing in their pre-season matches. “They are ready, they look hungry, with that mentality that they really want to win. The team came here to play the way we wanted to play – we were dominant, we were a threat, we were really lively and sharp from the beginning,” Arteta told Match of the Day. Arsenal entered the latest season with several new high-profile signings. Gabriel Jesus’s transfer from Manchester City for £45 million created the most buzz, but the Gunners also cashed out around £30 million for Fábio Vieira and Oleksandr Zinchenko each.
