Barcelona Defeats Real Madrid to Win Spanish Super Cup

After a few rocky years, Barcelona is finally back to top form, and they were on top of their game in the Spanish Super Cup final. Xavi led his team to an easy win against their rivals Real Madrid, claiming his first Spanish Super Cup trophy as Barcelona’s manager. The face-off between two rivals took place at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Barcelona was leading the way from the get-go. Gavi and Robert Lewandowski gave Barca a 2-0 lead before the first half, and there was no coming back. Karim Benzema’s late goal was just a consolation for Real Madrid, and they eventually lost 3-1. Xavi dedicated this win to their fans, who kept cheering for Barcelona even after the toughest of times, adding there’s still a way to go and keep maturing and improving after this win. “For all the ‘barcelonismo’, this is so positive. We’ve seen it all recently. We’ve been through thick and thin. Financial problems, Leo Messi’s departure was a tough episode. Tonight we won a title that can ignite this generation,” said Xavi. Since the Spanish Super Cup kicked off in 1982, Barcelona won the title 14 times. They’re the most successful club in the tournament’s history, followed by Real Madrid with 12.
