Barcelona Wins First La Liga Title Since 2019 with Four Games to Spare

Barcelona has to play four more games until La Liga is officially over, but they won’t have to worry about their outcome. They secured their first La Liga title since 2018-19 with four games to spare, after a comfortable win against their city rivals Espanyol on Sunday. Barcelona was on fire in the first half, with Robert Lewandowski scoring his 20th league goal of the season 11 minutes into the game before Alejandro Balde doubled the lead. Lewandowski netted another goal five minutes before the first half was over, and Jules Kounde sealed the deal with his goal in the second half. Espanyol tried to make a comeback and reduced the deficit to 4-2, but it wasn’t enough to win the game. This marks Barca’s first La Liga win since Xavi was appointed as their manager in 2021, and he’s largely responsible for leading the team to their latest triumph. "For the fans, for the club, winning it was vital for the stability of the project, we must continue on this path. This League means that we are doing things very well, this gives us stability, although we still have the unfinished business of European competition." Xavi told Movistar Plus. Barcelona won their latest La Liga title with four games to spare, and this marks their first win since the 2018–19 season and 27th league title overall.
