Baseball & Cricket Among New Sports Being Considered for 2028 Olympics

The Olympic Games significantly changed with the times, and introduced countless new sports to the mix over the years. Several new disciplines will make their debut at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, and baseball and cricket are among the latest new additions being considered. Flag football and squash will make their debut in Los Angeles after the International Olympic Committee ratified their inclusion, and they’re considering several more additions. Baseball/softball, cricket (T20), and lacrosse (sixes) could also be added to the mix in 2028. Janet Evans, LA28 Chief Athlete Officer, confirmed the ratifying vote of proposed sports at the IOC Session and expressed hope these changes will help many more athletes become Olympic champions. “The hope of an Olympic dream just became an active pursuit for countless athletes around the world. This remarkable journey over the next five years will undoubtedly change lives, inspiring athletes with the opportunity to represent their sport and country on the world’s biggest stage,” said Evans in a statement. Flag football and squash are making their Olympic debut in Los Angeles, while the remaining sports are yet to be officially confirmed. The LA28 Games will mark the third time that Los Angeles took over the hosting duties, having previously hosted in 1984 and 1932.
