Brock Purdy Becomes First Quarterback to Best Tom Brady in His First Start

Brock Purdy made his first career start with the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, and it was one for the books. His team managed to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, making Purdy the only quarterback to beat Tom Brady in his first career start. Sunday night’s loss was pretty humiliating for Tampa Bay, as the 49ers ended up ruining Brady’s Bay Area and defeated them 35-7 victory. Purdy was largely responsible for San Francisco’s latest triumph, after throwing two touchdown passes and running for another score to lead his team to the much-deserved victory. Purdy earned congratulations from Brady himself for his impressive performance and said it was pretty cool that one of the NFL’s most iconic quarterbacks has respect for him. “It was surreal just standing there like, man, that’s Tom Brady talking to guys and dapping guys up… Being a little kid, watching that guy kill it throughout all these years in Super Bowls, to be able to give him a high five at the end was pretty cool,” said the 22-year-old post-match. Purdy joined the San Francisco 49ers as the final pick in this year’s draft, after playing college football at Iowa State. He was named the team’s starting quarterback following Jimmy Garoppolo’s season-ending foot injury.
