Bruno Fernandes’ Double Goal Sends Portugal to the World Cup

North Macedonia managed to stop Italy from reaching the World Cup last week, but they weren’t as successful against Portugal. Bruno Fernandes scored two goals for his team on Tuesday night, single-handedly destroying Macedonia’s hopes to make it to Qatar. This marks the fifth time for Portugal’s star play Cristiano Ronaldo to make it to the World Cup with the national team, but he can’t take the credit for this win. Fernandes was the one who scored two goals, 32 minutes and 65 minutes into the game, with assists from Ronaldo and Diogo Jota. This marks a major shift for Portugal since Fernandes managed to overshadow the team’s top scorers, but his main priority coming into this game wasn’t to score goals but to see Portugal win. “Everyone has ambition, Cristiano and I are no exception. Usually, he scores and I assist, but today it was the other way around. For me, the most important thing is to help the team – if possible with goals,” said Fernandes. Portugal hasn’t missed the World Cup in the last 20 years, and this marks the sixth time in a row they qualified for this competition. The World Cup draw will take place this Friday, and Portugal will enter it as one of the top seeds.
