Cameron Norrie Becomes First British Player to Win Indian Wells

If you still haven’t heard of Cameron Norrie, it’s time you’ve learned his name because he’s making waves in the world of tennis. He was recently crowned as the winner of Indian Wells, becoming the first British player to ever win this tournament. Norrie reached his first Masters 1000 final at this year’s BNP Paribas Open, but his climb to the top wasn’t an easy one. Before making it to the final, he had to face several more experienced players including Grigor Dimitrov. His last match at Indian Wells saw him score a pretty easy victory against Nikoloz Basilashvili, winning 3–6, 6–4, 6–1. Following his big win, Norrie said he's pleased with how he handled the game and added this win means a lot to him because it’s his biggest title to date. “It was a strange match today but absolutely massive for me and my team. I can’t really believe it. If you’d have told me I’d have won before the tournament started I wouldn’t have believed you, so it’s amazing,” said Norrie. After his Indian Wells triumph, the 26-year-old player moved up to number 16 in the world rankings. He also replaced Dan Evans as the new British number one men's tennis player.
