Cameron Smith Holds Off Anirban Lahiri to Win the Players Championship

Cameron Smith has been paving his way in the world of golf for quite some time, and he just managed to score the biggest victory of his professional career so far. The Australian golfer held off Anirban Lahiri to win his very first title at the Players Championship. The Players Championship is best known for offering the largest prize pool in the world of professional golf, despite not being a major. Smith is the fifth Australian to win it, and he walked away with $3.6 million after outranking the likes of Anirban Lahiri and Paul Casey. Smith won the title after shooting six-under-par 66 in the final round to finish on 13 under, and he was pretty pleased with his performance. "This hasn't sunk in yet. I feel as though one of these big ones was the next step for me. I have knocked on the door a few times and I felt it was my time. I'm playing the best I've ever played, I hit lots of quality golf shots and did not back down," said Smith after the tournament. The Players Championship win is one of the biggest individual successes of Smith’s career, in addition to two Australian PGA Championship trophies in 2017 and 2018.
