Carabao Cup: Man City Beats Title Holders Liverpool to Reach Quarter-Final

Liverpool came into this year’s Carabao Cup as a defending champion, but their hopes to lift the trophy again have been destroyed on Thursday night. Manchester City defeated them 3-2 to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-final. The clash between the two teams was one wild ride, and they kept us on our toes from the very start. Erling Haaland's opener gave Man City an early lead ten minutes into the game, but Fabio Carvalho evened out the score just ten minutes later. The second half kicked off with a bang, with Riyad Mahrez and Mohamed Salah scoring goals for their respective sides just a minute between each other. Nathan Ake emerged as the game’s biggest hero when he gave Man City a winning 3-2 lead with his final goal. Liverpool’s boss Jurgen Klopp called the game “spectacular” and Pep Guardiola echoed his words, saying it wasn’t easy standing their ground against the Reds at Etihad Stadium. "It is not easy to keep the ball against them. They have the most difficult structure I have faced in my career. They don't need anything to score and create chances. When they are much better they destroy you," said Guardiola. The Carabao Cup quarter-finals will take place on January 10, 2023, and Man City is set to face Southampton in their next match.
