Carl Granderson Sings $52 Million Extension with New Orleans Saints

Carl Granderson has been with the New Orleans Saints since the very start of his NFL career, and his future with this team is looking bright. The 26-year-old defensive end agreed to sign a four-year extension with his current team, reportedly worth $52 million. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Granderson’s new deal includes $35.3 million in guarantees, and this number is quite remarkable. According to ESPN’s data, this is the largest guarantee for an undrafted defensive lineman in the 20 years that contract data has been tracked. It’s also the fourth largest guarantee for an undrafted player overall, and the record is held by the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo with $55 million. Granderson joined the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2019 after playing college football at Wyoming. His current two-year contract is worth $5.2 million with just $240,000 guaranteed, and his new deal marks a huge leap for the 26-year-old. Bumping Granderson’s salary makes sense because he became the Saint’s starting defensive lineman this season, taking over from Payton Turner. Across 56 career games and nine starts with the Saints, he's recorded 17 sacks and four forced fumbles, including 2.5 sacks and five total tackles in two games he started in 2023.
