Carlos Alcaraz Beats Stefanos Tsitsipas to Defend Barcelona Open Title

After a rocky start to the season, Carlos Alcaraz is back on track! The Spanish teen kicked off the European clay court swing on a high note – by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas to defend his title at the Barcelona Open. Alcaraz reached the final without dropping a single set, and his domination continued in Sunday’s match with Tsitsipas. He easily cruised past the Greek player to score a comfortable 79-minute 6-3, 6-4 win. The Spanish teen won his past 14 ATP Tour matches on Spanish soil, and this triumph carries a special meaning because he got to win in front of his loved ones. "It is incredible. To feel this energy and lift the trophy in Barcelona in front of my family and friends, and most members of my team are here as well. Playing this level and to lift the trophy in front of them is a good feeling for me," said Alcaraz post-match. Alcaraz’s win in Barcelona is also quite significant since this marks the very first time that he managed to successfully defend an ATP Tour title. He’ll have a chance to continue his winning streak at the upcoming Madrid Open, where he’s also trying to defend the title after making history as the youngest player to win this tournament last year.
