Carlos Alcaraz Makes Triumphant Season Debut at Argentina Open

After missing Australian Open to recover from a leg injury, Carlos Alcaraz is finally ready for his big comeback. The world no. 2 played his first match of the season at the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires, beating Laslo Djere in three sets to make it to the next round. Alcaraz made a triumphant season debut in Buenos Aires, becoming the first former no. 1 to compete at this tournament since 2004. He held the top ranking for a total of 20 weeks, after becoming the youngest player to become ATP world no. 1, but eventually lost it to Novak Djokovic after missing the Australian Open. Alcaraz said it’s a great feeling to win again following his break, and thanked the fans in Buenos Aires for supporting him on his journey to the first win of 2023. "I didn't expect such a great crowd, a great atmosphere behind me. So I just can say thank you to all the fans here in Buenos Aires for the warm welcome that I received in this first match and I hope to keep going with this energy," said Alcaraz. Alcaraz entered the Argentina Open as the top seed, and he’ll face Dusan Lajovic in the quarterfinals of the clay-court tournament.
