Chelsea Forward Timo Werner Returning to RB Leipzig

Two years after leaving RB Leipzig to play in the Premier League, Timo Werner is ready to go back home. The Bundesliga club re-signed the Chelsea forward on a permanent deal, reportedly worth around £25 million. Werner joined the Blues in 2020 when he signed a five-year contract reportedly worth £47.5 million. He scored 23 goals in 89 games in Chelsea jersey and helped them win the Champions League in 2021. The decision to let him go isn’t a lucrative one for Chelsea, and they’ll make a loss with this transfer. Werner’s new four-year deal with RB Leipzig will keep him in Germany until 2026, and he’s very happy to be playing for RB Leipzig again from now on. "It was a great time from 2016 to 2020 in which we caused a sensation as a league newcomer. It was a worthy farewell for me back then, going as a record goalscorer… Now I'm looking ahead because RB Leipzig has developed over the past two years, just like I have," said Werner. The 26-year-old striker previously played for Leipzig between 2016 and 2020, scoring 95 goals in 159 games with the club. He became the youngest player to reach 150 and 200 appearances in the Bundesliga and Leipzig’s record goal-scorer.
