Colorado Avalanche Reach Their First Stanley Cup Finals in Two Decades

The Colorado Avalanche haven’t made it to the Stanley Cup finals in over two decades, but they’re finally ready for a comeback. After sweeping the Edmonton Oilers in Game 4 on Monday night, they’ve secured a spot in the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001. The Avalanche proved their domination in every game in the Western Conference finals, but their last wasn’t easy to win. They secured a 6-5 win thanks to Artturi Lehkonen's overtime goal, but his teammates Cale Makar, Devon Toews, Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, and Mikko Rantanen also scored for Colorado throughout the game. Colorado has gone a long way in the last few years, and the team’s captain Gabriel Landeskog said that it’s a miracle to come this far five years after the disastrous 2016-17 season. "That was as close to rock bottom as you can come. But at the same time, we showed our resiliency. And then you start making the playoffs and you start believing, then you start seeing progress and start moving,” said Landeskog. The Avalanche will face the winners of the Eastern Conference finals in the Stanley Cup finals taking place later this month. The NY Rangers currently hold a 2-1 lead against the defending champions the Tampa Bay Lightning.
