Donovan Mitchell Scores Historic 71 Points to Lead Cavaliers Past Bulls

Scoring over 70 points in a single game is a historic achievement that only a handful of NBA players accomplished in the past – and Donovan Mitchell just became one of them! He led the Cleveland Cavaliers to an epic win against the Chicago Bulls after scoring whopping 71 points on Monday night. The Cavs scored a wild 145–134 overtime win against the Bulls, and Mitchell was the night’s shiniest star. He broke the franchise record by scoring 71 points, in addition to eight rebounds and a career-high 11 assists. By doing so, he set a new season record and the highest-scoring performance for an NBA player since Kobe Bryant's 81-point game in 2006. Mitchell is one of only seven players in history to score more than 70 points in a single game. The 26-year-old joins Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Thompson, David Robinson, Elgin Baylor, and Devin Booker as the latest member of the 70-point club. Mitchell said it’s humbling to be in this company, and that he intends to keep working even harder after this historic milestone. “I’ve always believed I can be one of the best players in this league, but I have to keep working… Those other guys have all won at the highest level and that’s my ultimate goal. But to be there in the record books with them is truly incredible,” said Mitchell.
