Emma Raducanu Loses Her First Match Following US Open Triumph

Emma Raducanu made quite a splash with her US Open victory this year, but she failed to replicate that success in the first match since her Grand Slam win. The 18-year-old tennis player was beaten by Belarus' Aliaksandra Sasnovich at Indian Wells. World no. 22 Raducanu took part in her first post-US Open match at the 2021 BNP Paribas Open, but odds weren’t on her side. Sasnovich, ranked 100th in the world, managed to score an easy win against the teen champion after beating her 6-2 6-4 in round two of the tournament. This was Raducanu’s first match since her US Open success, where she managed to beat the fellow teen Leylah Fernandez in the final, becoming the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title in over four decades. Raducanu praised Sasnovich for playing a great match and admitted she fully deserved to win this time around. Despite her loss, the British player is trying to keep her hopes up, and she wants to learn from her time at Indian Wells and take it as a lesson. "There's going to be disappointment after any loss. I didn't go in there putting any pressure on myself because in my mind I'm so inexperienced that I'm just taking it all in," said Raducanu after the match.
