Emma Raducanu Planning to Return to Tennis Next Season

2023 has been a pretty rocky year for Emma Raducanu, but she’s busy plotting her comeback. The former US Open champion is planning to return to tennis next season after undergoing surgery that prevented her from taking part in most major tournaments this year. 2023 has been the year of change for the 20-year-old British player, who had to undergo surgery on her ankle and both wrists to remove carpal bosses. She also parted ways with former coach Sebastian Sachs and dropped outside of the world's top 200 after missing most of the major tournaments this spring and summer. Raducanu officially won’t return to tennis before the season-ending WTA Finals in November, and missing three of the four Grand Slams this season was the biggest blow for the young British player. "This season all the slams were finished so it was difficult to watch them go by but I was trying to stay in my lane as much as possible and keep focused on my recovery," she told BBC London. Raducanu rose to prominence after winning the US Open in 2021, but her career trajectory has been plagued with injuries ever since. She played only 10 matches in 2023 and returned to practice in August following her surgery, but eventually determined she’s not ready to go back to competing this season.
