England Beats Germany to Win Their First UEFA Women's Euro Final

England entered this year’s UEFA Women's Euro final at Wembley on Sunday as the clear underdog and managed to stand their ground against Germany. It was the narrowest of encounters, but the English team eventually came out victorious, winning their very first major women's tournament. After an uneventful first half, Ella Toone netted the opening goal 62 minutes into the game, but it didn’t take long for Germany to even out the score. Germany’s Lina Magull equalized the score, eventually forcing extra time. The game entered its 110th minute when substitute Chloe Kelly finally sealed the deal, earning England its well-deserved 2-1 victory. Sarina Wiegman, the coach of the English team, acknowledged this wasn’t an easy game to win, but she's not too bothered by it because they managed to walk away as champions. “It was so tight but who cares… If you really want to win and become better every single day, that’s what I have noticed the whole year. It’s been incredible. We agreed a couple of things on behaviors, they weren’t just words, we lived it. And this is the result,” said Wiegman. This marks England’s very first win at UEFA Women's Euro Championship. They previously made it to two finals and two semi-finals, but this is the first time they’ve managed to lift the trophy.
