George Russell Scores His First Formula 1 Win at São Paulo Grand Prix

George Russell has been making waves and emerged as a rising Formula 1 star this season, and he’s ending it on a high note. The British driver scored his very first Formula 1 win at the São Paulo Grand Prix after defeating his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton. Russell established his domination from the very start of the race, and he wasn’t letting go. Reigning champion Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton contested for the second place, but the Dutch was penalized for a collision that occurred between them, making it easier for Russell to come out victorious. This marks the maiden Grand Prix victory for Russel and the first win for Mercedes this season. The 24-year-old driver said he was “super proud” and thanked everyone from his team at Mercedes to his parents, who supported him every step of the way. “What an amazing feeling. Just a huge thank you to the whole team for making this possible. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster this season, this race… I’m speechless. On the in-lap all of these memories sort of came flooding back,” said Russel post-race. Russel’s victory in São Paulo doesn’t change much in terms of the race for the World Championships title. Max Verstappen will win the title no matter what happens in the season's final race in Abu Dhabi, while Charles Leclerc and Sergio Pérez are competing for the runner-up spot.
