Hometown Hero Max Verstappen Wins 2022 Dutch Grand Prix

There’s nothing quite like winning a Grand Prix in your home country, and Max Verstappen managed to do it once again this weekend. He defended his title at the Dutch Grand Prix and secured his World Championship lead with the tenth win of the season. Verstappen took the pole position at the beginning of the race for the third time this season, but his road to victory was plagued with difficulties. The Dutch started off strong before a couple of caution periods put a dent on his title hopes, but managed to make a comeback following a late safety-car period. This marks Verstappen’s fourth consecutive win and tenth overall, and it carries more weight than all others because he finally got the chance to lift the trophy at home. “It’s always special to win your home Grand Prix but this year I had to work even harder for it. It’s incredible to win again in front of this crowd, we’ve had unbelievable support here and I’m proud to be Dutch,” said Verstappen after the race. The Dutch Grand Prix was reintroduced as part of the World Championship last year, for the first time since 1985. Max Verstappen is the only driver to win it in the modern era so far, following in the footsteps of Niki Lauda and Alain Prost.
