Iga Swiatek Cruising to No. 1 After Defeating Naomi Osaka at Miami Open

Iga Swiatek was a clear favorite to take no. 1 on the WTA list following Ashleigh Barty's retirement, and her moment to shine is finally here. The Polish tennis player is set to become the world no. 1 after defeating Naomi Osaka in the Miami Open final. Swiatek’s triumph in Miami marks her 17th straight win, and she didn’t have a hard time getting there. Her victory against Osaka was pretty clean, and she was crowned the Miami Open winner after defeating her 6-4 6-0 in just two sets. Despite her dominant win against Osaka, the 20-year-old tennis player said that the last two weeks were pretty intense and that she wasn’t sure if she’ll be able to keep up her winning streak until the very last game. "It's amazing for me that I could show mental toughness because my whole life I thought I could do more and sometimes I was losing and I didn't even know why. This season I feel like everything clicked so it's great and I am really happy," said Swiatek following her Miami Open victory. Swiatek’s win in Miami comes shortly after she was crowned the winner of the 2022 Indian Wells Masters. This makes her the youngest woman to ever win the Sunshine Double, and only the fourth to do so, after Steffi Graf (1994, 1996), Kim Clijsters (2005), and Victoria Azarenka (2016).
