Jacob deGrom Signs 5-Year, $185 Million Deal with Texas Rangers

There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding Jacob deGrom’s future with the New York Mets, and it seems he’s ready to move on. The baseball pitcher signed a five-year deal with the Texas Rangers, reportedly worth $185 million. The team’s general manager Chris Young confirmed he’s joining them in an official statement, saying that they’re thrilled that he has decided to become a Texas Ranger. "Over a number of seasons, Jacob has been a standout major league pitcher, and he gives us a dominant performer at the top of our rotation. One of our primary goals this offseason is to strengthen our starting pitching, and we are adding one of the best," said Young. DeGrom’s new deal comes after weeks of speculations about his future with the Mets, with many experts doubting he’ll stay with his old team. He openly said that he was disappointed by the Mets after they lost to the San Diego Padres in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card and opted out of his contract, entering free agency, at the end of the season. DeGrom kicked off his professional MLB career with the Mets in 2014, and he’s been with the team ever since. It’s been reported that he refused the three-year extension in a $120-million range to leave New York for Texas.
