Julio Rodriguez Sets New MLB Record with 17 Hits in Four Games

The Seattle Mariners won their fifth straight match against the Houston Astros on Saturday, and Julio Rodriguez was the game’s shiniest star. J-Rod set a new record for most hits in a four-game span with his 17th hit against the Astros. The 98-year-old record set by Milt Stock of the 1925 Brooklyn Robins seemed impossible to break until Rodriguez decided to give it a shot. He went 4-for-6 with four singles and a stolen base on Saturday – and these weren’t even his best results during the four-game span. He also stole a total of five bases during that stretch, becoming the first player to record at least 14 hits and five stolen bases in four games. He’s also the second-youngest player since 1901 to record at least 15 hits in a four-game span at 22, behind Buddy Lewis, who did it at age 20 in 1937. The Mariners eventually defeated the Astros 10-3 on Saturday, and the team’s manager Scott Servais was as impressed by J-Rod’s performance as the fans. “I’ve never seen anything like it. Nobody in the history of Major League Baseball has seen anything like it. But what can you say? Julio is just smoking hot right now,” he said post-game.
