Keldon Johnson Signs $80 Million Extension to Stay with San Antonio Spurs

Keldon Johnson hasn’t been with the San Antonio Spurs for too long, but he already feels right at home. After three seasons with the team, he’s ready to make an even bigger commitment after signing a four-year deal with the Spurs worth $80 million. Johnson joined the Spurs in 2019, after playing college football for the Kentucky Wildcats. He was selected with the 29th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, but it didn’t take him long to prove his worth and become one of the Spurs’ main trade assets. Johnson is a key player in the Spurs’ ongoing efforts to rebuild the team. He previously told ESPN that the team bosses believe in him and trust him “to lead these guys in the right direction”, adding that he takes this responsibility seriously. Despite interest from other teams, Johnson is staying in San Antonio after a record-breaking season with the team. He averaged career-high 17 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists across 75 games with the Spurs last season, but they eventually failed to make it to the playoffs. In addition to being one of the team’s most valuable players, Johnson is also an Olympic medalist. He won the gold medal in basketball as a member of the United States national team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
