Kirk Cousins Lands Four-Year $180 Million Deal with Atlanta Falcons

Kirk Cousins entered free agency after six years with the Minnesota Vikings, and he finally found a new home. The quarterback will join the Atlanta Falcons next season after signing a lucrative four-year deal with the team, reportedly worth $180 million. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Cousins’ new contract includes a $50-million signing bonus and $100 million guaranteed. The Falcons were determined to land this deal following Cousins’ great start to last season - he had 2,331 passing yards with 18 touchdowns before Week 8, when he was placed on the injured reserve list with a torn Achilles injury. Cousins has high hopes for his new deal with the Falcons, and he’s planning to spend the rest of his career in Atlanta. "As we talked with Atlanta, it felt like this was a place where, if I play at the level I expect to play, I can retire a Falcon. That was something that really excited me. Certainly, that's the goal, and you've got to earn the right to do that. But that was exciting to feel like I got that opportunity here," Cousins told reporters. Cousins’ new deal wasn’t without scrutiny. The NFL officials launched an investigation into his new contract, looking into potential tampering by the Falcons prior to the start of free agency.
