LeBron James Signs Two-Year $97.1 Million Extension with Lakers

Despite LeBron James’ best efforts, the last season has been pretty rocky for the Los Angeles Lakers, but he’s still not jumping ship. The NBA legend signed a two-year extension with his current team, reportedly worth a spectacular $97.1 million! James became eligible for an extension with the Laker earlier this month and had until June 30, 2023 to sign a new deal with the team. He didn’t wait for too long and secured a hefty paycheck right away, together with a player option for the 2024-25 campaign and a 15% trade kicker. The King’s future with the Lakers seemed uncertain after he said “the door’s not closed” on his potential return to Cleveland Cavaliers, but he eventually decided to stay in LA. His ultimate goal is to play his last season with his son Bronny James, whether it’s with the Lakers or somewhere else. “I see myself being with the purple and gold as long as I can play. But I also have a goal that if it’s possible — I don’t even know if it’s possible — and if I can play with my son, I would love to do that. That’s the coolest thing that could possibly happen,” said James. The King joined the Lakers in 2018 and averaged 30.3 points last season, making his 18th consecutive All-NBA Team selection.
