Lewis Hamilton Received Knighthood Days After World Title Loss

Lewis Hamilton’s controversial world title loss in Abu Dhabi this weekend took the world by storm, but he just received a worthy consolation prize. The F1 legend has received a knighthood at Windsor Castle, becoming just the fourth F1 driver to do so. Seven-time Formula One world champion became a Sir on Wednesday when he received a knighthood from the Prince of Wales. He follows in the footsteps of Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss, and Jack Brabham – the only three F1 drivers to be knighted before him. Hamilton is no stranger to rubbing shoulders with the royal family, and this isn’t the first honor that he received for his achievements. He was awarded an MBE – a Member of the Order of the British Empire – in 2009, shortly after winning his very first world championship. Many expected Hamilton to win the title again this year, and break Michael Schumacher's all-time record by scoring a total of eight championships, but his dreams were crushed at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Max Verstappen walked away with the title, but many viewers felt he didn’t win it fair and square. Hamilton was expected to win one of the most controversial F1 races in recent memory until a safety car was brought onto the track. Hamilton was in a clear lead before this happened, but the safety car drama gave Verstappen enough time to change tires, catch up with Hamilton, and eventually win the race.
