Liam Broady Stuns Fourth Seed Casper Ruud in Major Wimbledon Shocker

Casper Ruud entered this year’s Wimbledon as the fourth seed, but his time at this Grand Slam was cut short. The Norwegian tennis star was eliminated from the tournament by Liam Broady in a five-set thriller, which marks one of Wimbledon’s biggest shockers so far. Ruud entered this match as a clear favorite, but he couldn’t stand his ground to Broady in the second round. The British player, ranked 142nd in the world, got to fulfill his childhood dream after walking out onto the Centre Court and defeated Ruud 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-3 6-0 in a three-and-a-half hour classic. The delight of the home crowd carried Broady to this major upset. This was a full-circle moment for the British player, who lost the 2011 Wimbledon boys' singles final when he was 17 and was haunted by that experience ever since. "It was a pretty terrifying, exhilarating experience coming out at Centre Court - but it's been my dream since I was five years old... I'm 29, I only have so many Wimbledons left in my career. This has to be seen as a reward. You have to take the bull by the horns," said Broady. Seeing Broady defeat Ruud was quite a shocker since he never broke into the top 100 or won a title on the ATP Tour and only entered this year’s tournament after earning a wild card.
