Lionel Messi Leaving Paris St-Germain at the End of the Season

Lionel Messi’s time with Paris St-Germain has been quite rocky, and it’s finally coming to an end. Following Messi’s recent suspension over an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia, the Argentine World Cup winner is ready to end his contract with PSG at the end of the season. Messi’s future at PSG has been plagued with uncertainty for quite a while, but it’s been previously reported that he reached an “agreement in principle” to extend his stay in Paris. This deal is now off, and his trip to Saudi Arabia was just the final straw in the volatile relationship between Messi and PSG. Messi expressed concerns about PSG’s ability to compete at the top of the European game in the face of their recent financial troubles. The French champions also didn’t seem to be invested in his future, as they shift their focus towards developing young talent. PSG's Qatari owners felt that his lack of response was a clear message that he didn’t want to stay in Paris, and his unauthorized trip only made things worse. Messi is in hot waters after heading to the Middle Eastern country without the club’s permission, and he won’t participate in training or play any games for the next two weeks.
