Lionel Messi Reportedly Reaches “Agreement in Principle” To Stay with PSG

Lionel Messi is one of the most sought-out football players in the world following his World Cup win, but it seems he won’t be leaving Paris. According to recent reports, the Argentine superstars reached an “agreement in principle” with Paris St-Germain to renew his contract. Messi is yet to sign his contract extension and make things official, but according to BBC Sport's European football expert Guillem Balague, it’s “practically all agreed”. "Messi is happy with it all and when back from his holidays the agreement will speed up. His life in Paris is balanced and happy, everybody is enjoying it and he has a real possibility of winning the Champions League again. Plus, it will help him be a candidate again for the Ballon d'Or," said Balague. Before joining PSG last year, Messi spent the entirety of his professional career with Barcelona. He left in the face of financial struggles that Barca was dealing with at the time, and fans hoped he’ll return in the future, but Balague reports that Barcelona hasn’t approached him with an offer. This news comes shortly after PSG president Al-Khelaifi discussed Messi’s future with the team following Argentina’s victory at the World Cup. He confirmed they want to keep him in Paris, but also added that no decision about his contract will be made until next year.
