Man City’s Raheem Sterling Agrees Personal Terms with Chelsea

After seven years with Manchester City, Raheem Sterling is ready to move on. It’s been a few weeks since the 27-year-old attracted interest from Chelsea, and it’s finally been reported that he agreed on personal terms with the Blues. Sterling has one year left on his contract at City, and Pep Guardiola previously suggested that he’s open to his exit because he doesn’t like to “keep players that are unhappy”. Sterling joined Man City from Liverpool in 2015, for a reported sum of £49 million, which was the highest transfer fee ever paid for an English player at the time. He proved to be a good investment, scoring 131 goals in 339 games with Man City, helping them win four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and three League Cups along the way. It’s unclear how much Chelsea paid for Sterling, but it’s likely that the bid is in the £50 million range. On the other hand, the Blues have been going through a financial conundrum this year, and Sterling is their first major signing this summer. He’ll help Chelsea boost its attacking ranks following the exit of Romelu Lukaku, who went to Inter Milan on a season-long loan. BBC reports that Sterling has no ill will towards Man City, and simply wants to “play a pivotal role at a club challenging for all the major honors”.
