Manchester United Wins Carabao Cup to Claim First Trophy in Six Years

Manchester United hasn’t claimed a trophy since 2017, but their six-year-long draught is finally over. The Red Devils defeated Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley to finally collect their first trophy in six years. Manchester took the lead and proved their dominance in the first half and there was no going back for Newcastle. Casemiro put Manchester on the scoreboard and Marcus Rashford gave them a 2-0 lead just six minutes later, and the result didn’t change until the end of the game. The Carabao Cup win ended a long title drought for Manchester, and the match would’ve been even more historic if Newcastle came out victorious. Their wait for silverware stretches all the way back to 1969, and it doesn’t seem their luck will change anytime soon. Erik ten Hag, who became United’s manager in 2022, was delighted to end the club’s trophy drought and credited the player’s collective team effort for this amazing victory. “I just want to win. We invested from the start of the season, with the staff – I want to say that they have done an incredible job – and the staff and players are together. They are really good collectively. Also, they challenge each other, which needs to happen,” said Ten Hag post-match. As for Manchester United’s Premier League chances, their standing is much stronger than it was last year, and they’re currently third, eight points behind leaders Arsenal with 14 games left to play.
