Matt Olson Signs Blockbuster, Eight-Year Deal with Atlanta Braves

After five years with the Oakland Athletics, Matt Olson found a new home. The All-Star first baseman is ready to take his baseball career to the next level after signing an eight-year deal with the Atlanta Braves, reportedly worth $168 million. This announcement comes shortly after Olson was traded to the Braves from the Athletics in exchange for Cristian Pache, Shea Langeliers, Joey Estes, and Ryan Cusick. He kicked off his MLB career with the Athletics in 2016 and won two Gold Glove Awards and three Fielding Bible Awards while playing for this team. Olson’s transfer to the Braves makes total sense for the 27-year-old player because he happens to be the Atlanta native, and he’ll finally have a chance to play at home after signing this deal. “When you look at everything, every box is checked here. Obviously, this team just won the World Series and it’s got a good young core. It’s my hometown and my family lives in Atlanta. The list could go on and on,” he explained. Olson’s contract is worth $168 million, and it includes a $20 million club option for the 2030 season. This marks the largest contract in the Braves’ history, surpassing Freddie Freeman’s eight-year deal from 2014, worth $135 million.
