Matthijs de Ligt Signs Five-Year Deal to Leave Juventus for Bayern Munich

Juventus will be without one of its strongest defenders once the new season rolls around because Matthijs de Ligt decided to jump ship. The Dutch player is leaving the Italian club after signing a five-year deal worth €77 million with the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. De Ligt’s deal comes with an initial fee of €67 million, and it could potentially rise to €77 million with add-ons. He’s the second Dutch player to join Bayern this summer, following Ryan Gravenberch's transfer from Ajax. De Ligt released an official statement announcing his deal with Munich and said he’s happy to be a part of one of the most successful clubs in Europe and the world at large. "I felt the genuine appreciation from the sporting management, the coach, and the board right from the start, which convinced me. On top of that, it is a brilliantly run club with big aims. I'm very glad that I'm now becoming part of the FC Bayern story," said the Dutch player. Matthijs de Ligt joined Juventus from Ajax in 2019, signing a five-year contract worth €75 million. The 22-year-old player made a total of 117 appearances in Turin over the course of the past three years and led the team to one Serie A title.
