Max Verstappen Secures His Second Formula 1 World Title at Japanese Grand Prix

Max Verstappen established himself as the clear World Championship front-runner, and it was just a matter of time before he lifted the trophy. That moment finally arrived at the chaotic Japanese Grand Prix, where he was crowned as the World Champion for the second consecutive time. The Japanese Grand Prix marks Verstappen’s 12th victory of the season, and he left Sergio Pérez and Charles Leclerc in the dust to make it happen. Despite winning in Japan, Verstappen wasn’t quite sure if it was enough to take the championship home because it wasn’t clear if full points would be awarded because the race was red-flagged due to rain. Despite the race running just over half distance, Verstappen was named the World Champion for the second consecutive year and said he’s experiencing “mixed emotions” following his triumph. "I'm so thankful to everyone who's been contributing to the success, the whole team has been working flat out. Beside that, the work we did with Honda every year, constantly improving, gets very emotional especially here. I'm very proud we could do it here,” said Verstappen. There are four more races left on the Formula 1 calendar this season, starting with the United States Grand Prix. Verstappen is heading into them with an unassailable lead over Perez and Leclerc, who are still going head-to-head for the runner-up spot.
