Mbappe Staying at PSG, Spain's La Liga Filing a Complaint Over “Scandalous” Deal

Despite previous reports that Kylian Mbappe agreed to personal terms with Real Madrid, the French forward is staying with Paris St-Germain. He signed a new three-year extension with his current team, but not everyone is happy about it and Spain's La Liga will be filing a complaint over the “scandalous” deal. Mbappe was heavily linked to Real Madrid for quite some time, but all hell broke loose when the 23-year-old announced his decision to stay at the Parc des Princes. "I am convinced that here I can continue to grow within a club that gives itself all the means to perform at the highest level. I am also very happy to be able to continue playing in France, the country where I was born, grew up and flourished," said Mbappe in a statement. Financial details of Mbappe’s deal weren’t made official, but Sky Sports reports it includes a signing bonus of around $137 million and $25 million of the annual net salary. PSG fans may be excited about Mbappe’s new deal, but representatives of Spain's La Liga don’t feel the same way. They’re filing a complaint with UEFA and French and EU authorities, claiming that “this type of agreement attacks the economic stability of European football, putting at risk hundreds of thousands of jobs and the integrity of the sport”. They described PSG’s decisions to sign Mbappe as “scandalous” after the team accumulated losses of over $700 million in prior seasons.
