Messi and Alvarez Lead Argentina to World Cup Final with a Win Over Croatia

Argentina entered this year’s World Cup as one of the front-runners, and they’re just one match away from taking the trophy home. Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez fired Argentina to the World Cup final with an epic 3-0 semi-final victory over Croatia on Tuesday night. Argentina was on top of their game in the semi-final and they truly gave Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic a run for his money. Their first goal came in the form of Messi’s penalty 34 minutes into the match, and Alvarez doubled the lead just five minutes later. The Man City striker scored another goal in the second half, cementing Argentina’s 3-0 win. This was an emotional night for Argentina captain Messi, who confirmed this will be his last World Cup, and he’s happy it will end with a bang. "I am very happy for finishing my journey in World Cups in a final, to play the last game in a final. That is really very gratifying. Everything I lived in this World Cup has been emotional, seeing how much it has been enjoyed in Argentina,” said Messi, who never lifted the World Cup trophy before and only played in the 2014 final when Argentina lost to Germany. The 2022 FIFA World Cup final will take place on December 18, and the second finalist will be determined tonight, in the face-off between France and Morocco.
