Nikola Jokic Signs Historic $264 Million Extension with Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets simply wouldn’t be the same without Nikola Jokic, and they’re not letting go of their star player anytime soon. The Serbian player just signed a record-breaking five-year supermax extension with the Nuggets, worth $264 million over five years. Jokic’s new deal will keep him in Denver through the 2027-28 season, and it’s the richest deal in NBA history. Seeing the two-time MVP break records isn’t a shocker, since he truly raised the bar since joining the Nuggets in 2015. Jokovic’s underdog story kicked off when he joined the team as a no. 41 draft pick, but it didn’t take him long to rise through the ranks and prove his worth. Seven years later, he’s one of the most accomplished NBA players of his generation and has two back-to-back MVP titles under his belt. He defeated Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo to win his second consecutive MVP this year but brushed it off like it’s no big deal. He told the reporters that his award “doesn’t mean anything special” and that he’s more focused on competing and winning games. Jokic received All-NBA team honors in four straight seasons, in addition to three career first-team selections since joining the Nuggets. This season alone, he made history as the first NBA player to eclipse 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 500 assists in a single season.
