Novak Djokovic Defeats Carlos Alcaraz To Win Cincinnati Open

The rivalry between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz reached a fever pitch at this year’s Wimbledon, and it continued in Cincinnati. Djokovic came out victorious this time around and managed to defeat the Spaniard in just under four hours to lift the trophy at the Cincinnati Open. The latest face-off between Djokovic and Alcaraz was just as intense as the Wimbledon final, and the winner was determined after three epic sets. Djokovic was looking defeat right in the eye in the second set, but he managed to save a crucial set point, which eventually carried him to a 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(4) victory. Djokovic said that this match reminded him of his rivalry with Rafael Nadal during their prime because it felt like every point mattered. "I don't think I've played too many matches like this in my life. Each point is a hustle. Each point is a battle. You've got to basically earn every single point, every single shot, regardless of the conditions. It's amazing to be able to experience that with him on the court,” explained Djokovic. Despite losing to Djokovic in Cincinnati, Alcaraz will remain no. 1 in the ATP rankings, and come into the US Open as the top seed. The Spaniard will have to defend his title at Flushing Meadows to stay at no. 1, while Djokovic only needs to make it through the first round to climb to the top.
