Open Champion Cameron Smith Wins Australian PGA Championship

After winning this year’s Open Championship, Cameron Smith continued his domination in his hometown of Brisbane. Smith was crowned as the winner of the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship, winning the tournament by three strokes. Smith came into this year’s Australian PGA Championship as one of the favorites for the title, since he won it twice in the past – in 2017 and 2018. He finished 14-under and three ahead of Japan's Ryo Hisatsune and fellow Australian Jason Scrivener, while England’s John Parry tied fourth with Min Woo Lee with nine under. This year has been pretty successful for Smith, who won his first Open Championship back in July. He was also crowned the winner of the Players Championship, becoming only the fifth Australian to win this tournament. Back in August, Smith made a controversial decision to sign with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league, for a reported sum of $140 million. He recently revealed that Rory McIlroy tried to talk him out of it, but with no success because he wanted to make his own choice. “We talked about the PGA Tour and LIV. There was a bunch of stuff he wanted me to know before I made my decision. I wouldn’t say he tried to directly talk me out of it, but he definitely wanted me to stay,” Smith told Sydney Morning Herald.
