Pablo Carreño Busta Wins His First ATP Masters Title in Montreal

This year’s National Bank Open gave us many wild twists and turns, and the trophy eventually went to one of the biggest underdogs. Pablo Carreño Busta easily defeated Hubert Hurkacz to win his very first ATP Masters 1000 title. Busta defeated Jack Draper and Dan Evans on his way to the final, and he’d barely broke a sweat playing against Hurkacz. The Spanish player scored an easy 3-6 6-3 6-3 win on Sunday and benefited from the Pole’s surprisingly poor performance. Busta’s win in Montreal is quite historic since he’s the first unseeded player to win this tournament since Guillermo Cañas in 2002, and he’s as shocked about it as we are. “Please don’t wake me up if I’m dreaming because I’m enjoying this a lot. It’s an amazing feeling. It’s the best title of my career and I don’t know how to feel… It’s not my best season this year but I continued to believe in my team, myself, and my game,” said Busta. When it came to women's singles at the National Bank Open, the winner was much easier to predict. Simona Halep cruised past Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia to win her third title at this tournament, and this win is set to propel her back to the top 10 on the WTA list.
