Phil Kessel Scores 400th Career Goal & Breaks NHL Ironman Record

Tuesday night’s face-off between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Toronto Maple Leafs was pretty memorable for Phil Kessel. The Golden Knight’s forward suited up for his 990th consecutive game to break a major record and scored his 400th career goal along the way. The Golden Knights defeated the Maple Leafs 4-2 on Tuesday night, and Kessel was one of the players leading them to victory with his 400th career goal. This marked his 990th consecutive game, setting a new NHL ironman record and surpassing the mark set by Keith Yandle last season. Kessel seemed unfazed by his achievement, simply saying it was a special night and that he was happy to get the goal. According to his longtime agent Wade Arnott, he’s not too concerned about breaking records because he’s someone who lives in the moment. “The majority of guys, if they said something like that, you would be skeptical, cynical, and might not believe him. But with Phil, I really do believe he doesn't know… Phil's not someone who looks back at numbers, stats, things like that. He doesn't look back,” Arnott told NHL.com. Kessel has only been with the Golden Knight for a few months, after signing a one-year contract worth $1.5 million earlier this summer.
