Rafael Devers Signs Massive $331 Million Extension with Boston Red Sox

Rafael Devers has been with the Boston Red Sox since the very start of his MLB career, and he’s not going anywhere. The Dominican baseball player signed an 11-year extension with Boston, reportedly worth $331 million. Devers' new contract also includes the $17.5-million salary he agreed to earlier this week to avoid arbitration, in addition to a $20-million signing bonus. It’s one of the largest MLB contracts of all time and the second-largest this season, after Aaron Judge’s $360 million deal with the Yankees. According to MassLive's Chris Cotillo, Devers’ new deal doesn't include a no-trade clause, but he’ll obtain no-trade rights in 2027, after ten years in Boston. This deal comes less than a year since Devers signed an $11.2 million contract with the Red Sox to avoid salary arbitration back in March. He was very honest about his future prospects after signing this deal, saying he’s open to extension talks, as long as they match his worth. “That’s something that may be hard at first, but you know you’re worth and I know my worth. What it comes down to is I know the type of money I should be making, so that’s what I’m focused on. I’m not focused on what other guys are making or what they are doing,” said Devers last year.
